Legislating morality
|
| |
We are told that we can’t outlaw abortion, among other things, because we can’t legislate morality. Well, here’s the way things are: EVERY law passed or government act promulgated legislates morality. Every environmental regulation, every minimum wage act, any thought of government sponsored health care, means someone telling you what to do because they think it’s the right thing to do. Moral decisions are made every day by every elected official and, more dangerously to our freedoms, every unelected bureaucrat. It’s the nature of the business. So let’s get that red herring off the table and concentrate on what is in fact the right thing to do whenever we discuss what our legislators and bureaucrats should be doing. That’s the real morality behind good government.
