It's nothing but hubris.

Ordinarily we at DG would not speak about purely local issues, yet one has developed which we cannot ignore. Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick has hung the City out to dry with his recent scandal. He needs to step down.
Yet he will not, as God has anointed him Mayor (so he says). We are not ones to presume the Will of the Almighty, so let's say that just maybe He wants Kwame exactly where he is. The next question is: why? Kwame says so that he can continue the work he was elected to do. It seems he gave up on that work, oh, around the time he began his dalliances with his chief of staff and, it appears, others. So we’ll go out on a limb and ask: do you think, Mr. Mayor, that perhaps God wants you where you’re at to learn a lesson in simple humility? Or will your arrogance not allow for that?
So follow the former governor of New York’s lead, indeed that of your former chief of staff, and resign. You want to be a leader after all you’ve done? Be one that demonstrates character: stop messing around with women not your wife, and get out of the limelight so the people of Detroit can get out from under your odious shadow.
